Every plan is different. My employer chose Progyny as an add on benefit for those needing reproductive assistance. My plan included 2 lifetime cycles of benefits. Every type of service counted as a ¼ or ½ or 1 whole part of a cycle. I get 2 cycles per family, per lifetime.
So for example,
- ½ cycle for donor egg purchase
- ½ cycle for fertilization and genetic testing
- ½ cycle for embryo fertilization
- ¼ cycle for embryo transfer
- ¼ cycle for embryo transfer
My lifetime benefits are complete with Progyny. However, others have used their cycles for egg retrieval, egg freezing/preservation, purchasing sperm donation, IUI (intra uterine insemination), etc.
My co-pays were for every service as well. $750 for each embryo transfer. Paid over $5,000 cash for sperm donor vials. Paid $3,000 copay for egg donor. Paid normal copays for the doctor’s visits, blood work and labs.
Medications – Progyny has its own medication company (Alto) to deliver medications to your doorstep. You can choose to use your own local pharmacy, but using Alto, they paid almost 100% for the 7 – 9 different medications I was on preparing my body for the embryo transfer, and support pregnancy for the first 6 – 12 weeks.
With my second embryo transfer there was a medication added to support my immune system, and not covered but part of my protocol, so I paid cash. This one hurt because it was between $400-$500 a vial for 6 weeks. I tried seeking coverage through my medical insurance but was denied. However, it was worth it, because throughout this fall respiratory and flu season, and 4 business work trips on airplanes, hotels, conferences – I have not gotten sick! PRAISE JESUS!
